Student Media has more than 300 paid and volunteer student staff.
Most jobs are advertised in the Daily Wildcat. For information about specific jobs, please contact the person listed. For general employment
information for Student Media, stop by our business office, 615 N. Park, or phone 621-8659. Positions can fill very quickly and due to the
competitive nature of many of these jobs (students like working for us!), we do not know how many spots are open at any one time.
Newsroom
The Daily Wildcat employs about 80 reporters, photographers, copy editors and page designers during the school year, and about
20 during the summer. Turnover does occur in mid-semester. Reporters cover and write about news, sports and entertainment events and are
assigned to a specific section of the paper. Photographers will shoot feature photos, sports games, meetings and other events. Copy editors
should know AP style and have a good eye for detail. They generally work evenings. Page designers also work evenings and should be familiar
with page design software such as Indesign. Though no prior journalism experience is required, reporters and photographers will be expected
to submit an application and samples of their work. Pay is typically by assignment; editors are on salary.
