Students who do their own taxes this year may find that the process will take only 10 minutes and that they could receive their refunds by spring break, according to information from the IRS.

The Internal Revenue Service is offering a new program this year called TeleFile that will let taxpayers file their returns over the telephone and get their refund within three weeks.

Anyone who would normally file a 1040EZ form, has taxable income of less than $50,000, is single with no dependents, has filed a tax return previously, and is at the same address as last year is eligible to use the service.

Eligible taxpayers should have received a special tax booklet that contains a personal identification number and instructions on how to use TeleFile. The phone number for TeleFile is printed in the booklet.

For more information about TeleFile, call 1-800-829-4477 and select topic No. 255.

The phone system lets the callers know the amount of their refunds and whether additional taxes are due.

Prompts for TeleFile are available in both English and Spanish.
