Four UA football players, a UA track athlete, and Holiday Inn Inc. have been named in a civil lawsuit filed by a Davis-Monthan Air Force Base airman injured last May in a fight at the downtown Holiday Inn.

The suit alleges junior running back Gary Taylor, 21, and former UA football players Derrick Stewart, 23, Brandon Sanders, 22, and Shawn Parnell, 22, assaulted airman Terrence McIntosh May 21 at a party for Pacific 10 Conference athletes held at the hotel.

Alexander Sierra, McIntosh's attorney, said his client's jaw was broken in the fight and required surgery.

Sierra said Anson Watts, a former UA track athlete who held the party, and Holiday Inn Inc. were also named in the suit for failing to provide adequate security.

McIntosh would not comment on the case.

Parnell said he had not heard about the civil lawsuit and could not comment on it.

But he said, "It's really unnecessary for this to be continuing. It's not like we really assaulted him without him bringing it upon himself. The only reason it's a big deal is that we're athletes. It's bad on us because it's making us look to our families like we're trying to assault people, and that is not the case."

Watts had no comment. Stewart, Sanders and Taylor could not be reached.

Stewart is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in Pima County Superior Court to aggravated assault charges stemming from the fight.

Under a plea agreement, he could face up to two years in prison or three years probation. The sentencing is scheduled for April 12.

The Arizona Daily Star reported Jan. 24 that misdemeanor, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct cases against Sanders, Taylor and Watts are pending in Tucson City Court.

The fight reportedly arose after an argument on the dance floor at the party.

Stewart was suspended from the first two games of the season because of the allegations.

Sierra said there will be no immediate hearings and expects either a trial or an agreement nine months to a year from now.
