University police arrested three juveniles Saturday evening in connection with two vehicle break-ins earlier that day.

Someone reportedly flagged down an officer and said the occupants of a white van had been stealing items from parked cars in the lot south of Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St.

At 3:55 a.m., police stopped a vehicle that matched the description and found a sledgehammer, bolt cutters, a hacksaw and other tools in the back.

The driver told officers he and the van's other two occupants had stolen items from vehicles earlier in the day, police reports stated.

A search of the van turned up a 35mm camera and an envelope containing insurance and registration information for a Suzuki Sidekick. The driver reportedly admitted both items were stolen.

Police reports indicate the driver later took officers to his brother's house, where the group had a pair of speakers and an amplifier. The items were placed into police property and the owners were notified of the recovery.

The juveniles were cited for larceny under $250 and released to their parents.

Police are investigating whether the juveniles have been involved in other motor vehicle larcenies in the university area.
