Ted Purdy won the individual title at the PING Intercollegiate Saturday at the MacGregor Downs Country Club in Cary, N.C.

The UA senior shot rounds of 71-69-72 for a 4-under-par 212 on the way to his second individual title of the season. Purdy also won the PING Arizona Intercollegiate in February. In the latest Rolex Collegiate Rankings, Purdy is ranked No. 8 in the nation while the Wildcats are fifth as a team.

Rory Sabbatini, who is ranked No. 47 in the country, led a group of four golfers who tied for second at 1-under. Included in that group was Todd Lynch of Wake Forest, who helped lead the Demon Deacons to the team title with a 3-over-par 867. That score beat Clemson by one shot.

Only nine of the 66 golfers in the tournament shot par or better.

Arizona finished in eighth place with a 15-over-par 879. Arizona State was the only other Pacific 10 Conference team in the tournament, and the Sun Devils finished in sixth place with a 12-over-par 876.

Aside from Purdy and Sabbatini, only one other Arizona golfer finished in the top 50. Matt Bergstrom tied for 49th with a 10-over-par 226. Gary Matthews shot a 12-over 228 and Andy Barnes added a 20-over-par score of 236.
