Traci Waites' hard work in developing the UA women's basketball point guards this past season has paid off.

Waites was named the associate head coach for the women's basketball team, UA Athletic Director Jim Livengood announced Friday.

After two seasons with the Wildcats, Waites will begin her third year as the associate coach to head coach Joan Bonvicini. Waites was also the starting point guard on Bonvicini's 1988 NCAA Final Four team at Long Beach State in California.

Waites had an outstanding impact on the development of the Wildcat guards this season. The team finished with a record of 22-8 and won the postseason National Women's Invitational Tournament, led by senior guards Brenda Pantoja and Andrea Constand. Pantoja led the nation in assists (11 per game), and both players led the conference in three-point shooting.
