Arizona dominated Oregon yesterday, sweeping the Ducks 7-0 at the Robson Tennis Center.

Arizona didn't drop a set in any of the matches as they improved their record to 5-1. The Ducks dropped to 7-5.

Highlighting the wallop was sophomore Roland Kupka's 6-0, 6-0 blanking of John Davorss.

Playing No. 1 singles, Henrik Wagner defeated Dougal Williams 6-4, 6-4. Wagner is playing in place of Jan Anderson, who is in Israel playing for Norway's Davis Cup team.

Wagner, a junior transfer from Foothills Junior College in San Francisco, won the California State Championship last year.

The No. 1 doubles team of Wagner and Tom Haugland continued to play exceptionally well with a 8-4 defeat of Hans Forsberg and Dougal Williams in a pro set.

"We're coming along nicely, we're starting to get a little more confidence," said Wagner about the No. 25 Wildcats.

The No. 3 doubles team of Jack Enfield and Mike MacKay added an 8-5 victory over Carlos Navarro and Mike Williams, while senior Chris Jenkins stayed undefeated (6-0) at the No. 3 singles spot with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Carlos Navarro.

In his first year at Arizona, Wagner has gracefully stepped into the No.1 position and will have his first go at No. 2 UCLA and No. 9 Southern Cal Feb. 16-17 in Los Angeles.

"I'm really pumped up for playing UCLA and USC because I'm going to get to play guys that are really ranked high and that is my chance. Those guys are about as good as they get in college tennis," said Wagner.

Anderson will return to the team before they travel to California, and he is expected to take over the No. 1 singles position.

"When Jan (Anderson) returns he will be the number one, he deserves to be there. But the No. 1 and No. 2 guys (at UCLA and USC) are very good players and you have to play extremely well to beat them, so it won't matter where I play," said Wagner.

Arizona has already defeated a highly ranked opponent this year, downing No. 14 New Mexico 7-0 in Albuquerque Jan. 20.

"That was the biggest win in eight years for the school," said Jenkins.

UA has not moved from No. 25, which was their preseason ranking, but stand to move up when the national rankings are released March 5.

Team victories for the Wildcats include Hawaii, BYU of Hawaii, and Utah.
