Coming home is always nice for the Arizona men's lacrosse team, and to beat the Arizona State Sun Devils is even sweeter.

"It was good for team moral to come out today, and give a great effort," said senior middle attacker Chris Stinson, who had five goals, and an assist in the 26-2 defeat of the Sun Devils.

The Laxcats (8-2, 8-1 in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League) are ranked No. 2 in the recent WCLL coaches poll. They ran off 10 unanswered goals after the Sun Devils tied the game at 1-1 early in the first quarter to take an 11-1 lead at the intermission.

Stinson and sophomore Dan Price scored on back-to-back goals in the first quarter to blow the game wide open.

"(We) played much better today than we did against UC-San Diego (last weekend)," Laxcats head coach Mickey-Miles Felton said. "Today we played at the level we need to be at in preparation for next week's important game against Chapman."

The top two teams in the WCLL Southern Division will have home field advantage in the playoff quarterfinals on April 19. If the Laxcats beat Chapman, they will have the second spot. If they should lose, they will have to travel on the road for the third week in a row.

"The final stretch of games are all important," Felton said. "(We) need to be in the right frame of mind from here on in."

Felton is now 77-6 in his career against ASU, with the last loss coming in February of 1991, 9-7.

"It doesn't matter how many you win, always when you lose (in reference to ASU)," Felton said.

Stinson, senior attacker Josh Sfara and junior Bret Withey each had five goals for the Laxcats.

The Laxcats will take on Chapman at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the final regular season home game at the Rincon Vista Sports Complex.
