Holding classes Tuesday lacked spirit

Editor:

I am writing in response to the unspirited administration of this school.

University administrators refused to cancel classes Tuesday which didn't allow many students to participate in the welcoming home celebrations. What the administrators obviously didn't understand is that winning a national championship could be a once-in-a-lifetime event, and not allowing the students a chance to enjoy this event is denying them school spirit!

I heard countless stories by students who were angered by the fact that they couldn't go to the festivities since they had classes to attend. I'm pretty sure that some professors were also disgruntled that they couldn't celebrate since they had to teach a class.

It is quite disturbing that the mayor of Tucson proclaimed Tuesday as "Wildcat Tuesday" and that our university president didn't do anything to acknowledge our national victory.

A nearby high school also allowed their students to attend the festivities so why didn't our administrators do such a thing and permit their constituents the chance to miss school? Bottom line is that such an event is better the first time around and I just hope that our administrators up in the Administration building can show a little more enthusiasm towards promoting school spirit among their students in the future.

Congratulations to the basketball team who deserves every ounce of respect from the nation, you did it!
