Police Beat

A 15-year-old boy was assaulted by a 17-year-old boy while on a ride Friday at Spring Fling, police reports stated.

The 15-year-old told police at about 4:39 p.m. that he and the 17-year-old were on a ride and the ride's momentum forced him against the other boy. The 15-year-old said the 17-year-old became angry, told him to stop and then struck the 15-year-old's nose with his elbow.

The ride's attendant told police that the 15-year-old did nothing to initiate the incident.

Police reports stated the 15-year-old's nose was bleeding and that he complained of dizziness. The boy was treated by paramedics at Spring Fling, in the 1800 block of East University Boulevard.

Police stopped the 17-year-old at North Cherry Avenue and East Speedway Boulevard. He told police he got into an argument with the 15-year-old after the boy kept pushing him into a metal bar. The 17-year-old said he was in pain and that he told the 15-year-old to stop several times.

He said the 15-year-old did not stop pushing, so he tried to push him away by pushing his shoulder. He said the ride shifted, causing him to accidentally hit the 15-year-old in the face with his elbow.

The 15-year-old's custodian did not want to press charges.

Police warned the older boy for criminal trespassing. Both boys were released.

A woman was arrested on three charges Sunday after university police found her walking in the middle of East Speedway Boulevard, east of North Warren Avenue, police reports stated.

Police were driving westbound on Speedway Boulevard at 1:33 a.m. when they saw a woman walking in the roadway.

Police reports stated that traffic on Speedway Boulevard almost hit the woman, and that cars were forced to take "evasive action" to avoid her.

The woman was stopped, and police asked her for identification.

The woman refused to provide ID or tell police her name, police reports stated. Police told the unidentified woman that she had committed a violation and was required to identify herself.

The woman refused again and said, "I just want to go home." She gave police two names, two birth dates and was uncooperative, according to reports. The woman was crying and yelling at police, reports stated.

Police arrested the woman on charges of failure to identify herself, obstructing a highway and providing false information to a police officer.

After police placed the woman in a patrol car, the woman attempted to kick the car's window out, police reports stated.

Police reports stated that the woman was combative with Pima County Jail personnel and had to be "physically carried" into the jail's booking room.

The woman was booked into Pima County Jail.

Three student were diverted to the Dean of Students diversion program after they were arrested for criminal damage and theft Saturday at Spring Fling, in the 1800 block of East University Boulevard.

The operator of the "Creep Show" ride told university police he had detained three male students for criminal damage about 10:40 p.m.

Police arrived at the ride and found the three students inside one of the ride's cars with a piece of black plastic in their laps.

The operator told police he saw the three students pull the plastic down but could not tell who did it.

The ride's owner told police he wanted to prosecute for criminal damage. While police were waiting for the owner, they noticed one student's backpack was unzipped and a white sign was sticking out of it.

Police asked the student for the backpack and found a sign in it reading "No handstands in barrel," police reports stated.

Police went to the "Fun House" and spoke to its operator who said the sign was taken from inside the attraction.

The three students were each arrested on a charge of criminal damage, and the student with the backpack was also arrested on a charge of theft.

The students were taken to the police command van and agreed to the Dean of Students diversion program. Police released the students and escorted them out of Spring Fling.

The plastic piece was returned to the "Creep Show," and the sign was returned to the "Fun House."
