'Mutato' columnist just 'regurgitates' old writing

Editor:

I am writing to ask the Wildcat what measures it takes to screen its Mutato columnists. It seems to me that they are either randomly chosen or you just take what you can get. Don't get me wrong. Mutato does have some talented writers, however, there are many who write for no reason other than to write. One "columnist" who comes to mind is Andrew Berenson whose articles are published regularly in the Mutato. Andrew's articles over the past 1 1/2 years are regurgitations of each other. His articles are nearly indistinguishable from one another.

All his columns start by putting down Arizona residents, then he says how much he likes the punk band he saw that weekend and he sometimes spices it up by insulting fraternities. For example, in the Sept. 5 Mutato Andrew writes, "Avail plays melodic, hardcore punk,...Avail can speed up its songs and play aggressive hardcore, or slow down and play a groovin' heavy number." And in last week's Mutato, (Aug. 29) in a "different" article he wrote, "Good Riddance shows that they can play melodic fast punk and then slow the tempo down and play some vicious and intense hardcore." Hmm... deja vu.

How much longer is the Mutato going to keep publishing the same old article? And when is the Mutato going to find some columnists with something different to say in each article?
