The Arizona women's soccer team dropped its third straight game Friday, losing to Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.

Arizona played UCLA late yesterday afternoon. The score was not available at press time.

The Waves (2-1), in their fourth season as an intercollegiate program, shut out the Wildcats 3-0.

UA head coach Lisa Fraser was optimistic about the loss.

"We played a decent game against them," Fraser said. "They didn't dominate the game."

The Waves notched their first goal in the 20th minute of play when freshman forward Jennifer Peterson beat three defenders and drilled a shot past Arizona senior goalkeeper Jennifer Weibel.

Fraser said Peterson wreaked havoc on the Wildcats.

"I think she created opportunities for them," Fraser said. "She definitely made a difference in the game between the two teams."

Pepperdine's second goal came from senior midfielder Shelly Jeltema in the 29th minute of the game. Peterson passed the ball to Jeltema, who shot the ball into the upper corner of Arizona's net.

Senior striker Jennifer Evans scored the Waves final goal in the 48th minute. Evans scored from 12 yards out off an assist from forward Shelby Cox.

The goal gave Evans 101 career points, making her the first player in Pepperdine women's soccer history to score more than 100 points.

Arizona senior forward Christine Keeley and freshman midfielder Tina Quiroz put some late pressure on sophomore Pepperdine goalkeeper Sumon Nicole, who made three second-half saves for the Waves.

Nicole, who recorded her first shutout of the season on Friday, faced five shots during the game. Weibel faced 17 shots, making four saves and allowing three goals.

"A victory over Arizona will always be bittersweet for me," said Pepperdine coach and Tucson native Kenny Dale. "I was raised in Tucson and my family is still there. In junior high school, I was chased by the campus police for skateboarding in the McKale Center. Today's victory was great, much closer to the sweet side than the bitter."
