Canned food donation can eat up $5 of parking citation fee

For those people who have yet to pay those pesky UA parking citations, there is a chance to get $5 off each citation with the donation of a can of food.

The program began April 1 and runs through May 16, said Marlis Davis, director of the University of Arizona's Parking and Transportation Services.

Davis said the program, which started three years ago, allows the UA community to give to the Tucson Community Food Bank and gives those people with old citations an incentive to pay off their fines.

People interested in receiving the $5 off their citation should bring a can of food to the Parking and Transportation offices in the University Services Building, 888 N. Euclid Ave.

The response to the program has been very good, Davis said.

She said 350 cans of food have already been donated, and a lot people have brought in several cans even though only one food item can be used per ticket.
