UA softball team on the road again

Senior Carrie Dolan tossed a one-hitter yesterday as the Arizona softball team completed a Bay Area sweep by taking two games from Stanford, 5-1 and 3-0, in Palo Alto.

Dolan, who had struggled the past few weeks, did not surrender a walk and struck out one.

UA pitcher Nancy Evans earned the win in the first game to run her league-leading record to 27-1.

Stanford fell to 24-24-1 overall and 5-15 in the Pacific 10 Conference.

The Wildcats (48-4 overall, 20-1 in the Pac-10) combined to score 21 runs on 26 hits in a doubleheader sweep of California (27-21, 8-11) at Strawberry Field in Berekely on Saturday.

The Wildcats, who regained the top ranking in the nation earlier this week led by just one run in each game going into the seventh inning before scoring three runs in the first game and two in the second.

The Wildcats were down 2-1 at one point in the first game but turned on the offense and cruised with 10-4, 11-0 victories.

Alison Johnsen continued to lead the way at the plate. She was 7-for-10 in the doubleheader.

Catcher Leah Braatz-Cochrane hit her conference-leading 18th home run in the 11-0 victory.

Evans combined with Dolan to earn the victories. Dolan tossed a two-hitter in the second game to up her record to 20-3 - her third-straight 20-win season.
