A male student reported his bike and lock stolen Wednesday after he chased a man on the stolen bike from the Science and Engineering Library, 744 N. Highland Ave.

The student told university police he saw someone taking his "Kona Explosive" mountain bike at about 11:20 a.m. on the library's east side. He said the man rode away from the bike racks where the bike had been parked.

According to police reports, the bike was locked with a cable lock.

The student told police he chased the man on foot, and when he knew he could not catch the man, he yelled for people to get a description of the man.

The student then called police from an emergency call box near La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave. He told police he saw the man riding on the bike westbound on East Sixth Street.

Police were unable to locate the man, reports stated.

The values of the bike and cable lock were unknown.

A UA female employee reported unknown calls on a UA calling card Tuesday at the College of Medicine, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.

The employee told police she was inside the airport in Pittsburgh Oct. 27 where she used the calling card at a pay phone. The employee said she believes someone got the card number while she was using the phone, police reports stated.

According to police reports, the employee was contacted by University of Arizona telecommunications on Oct. 28 because there was unusual activity on the calling card, including several calls to Belgium totaling $136.26.

The employee told police she did not make the calls, and the card was canceled Oct. 28. She also told police she was not aware of any other fraudulent charges to the card.

A man reported Monday he was assaulted while volunteering at a basketball game Feb. 24, 1996 at McKale Center, 1721 E. Enke Drive.

The man told university police he was walking through a corridor at McKale Center during halftime while waiting for former presidential candidate Bob Dole's entourage to head towards the home team's locker room.

According to police reports, the man said a male University of Arizona employee put his hands on his shoulders and jumped up, putting the employee's weight upon him. The man also told police the employee yelled, "Now maybe you'll listen to us."

The man told police he immediately felt a pain in his right shoulder, which was later diagnosed by doctors as a torn rotator cuff. He said two other UA employees also witnessed the incident.

Police reports stated the man and the employee had personal problems in the past, and the man was not asked to volunteer again after the basketball season.

The employee told police the man had been a volunteer for some time before the incident, and that the man's behavior began concerning other employees prior to the man's dismissal. He also told police the man was in an unauthorized area at the time of the incident.

According to police reports, the employee said the man did not appear to be injured after the incident.

Attempts to contact the two witnesses were unsuccessful, reports stated.

A university police officer who was in the hallway during the incident said he saw the employee yell but did not see the employee jump on the man, reports stated.

A man was arrested on trespassing and theft charges Wednesday after he was found sleeping in the Main Library, 1510 E. University Blvd.

According to police reports, police checked the library at 1:15 a.m. after reports of an after-hours trespasser.

While police checked the fourth floor, they found Michael A. McKelvey, 48, of a general delivery address, sleeping in the southwest corner of the fourth floor, just south of the main elevators, reports stated.

Police woke McKelvey and he admitted he had been warned before about trespassing in campus buildings.

McKelvey was then arrested on a charge of second degree criminal trespassing.

After police searched McKelvey, they found a UA identification card in his wallet. Police also cited McKelvey on a charge of theft by control for failing to return found property to its owner.

McKelvey was booked into Pima County Jail.
