Arizona Daily Wildcat February 27, 1998 Trio of seniors say goodbye to McKaleWhen the Arizona seniors bid farewell to McKale Center in their final home game tomorrow afternoon, they will do so as the most successful seniors in Arizona history. With their final postseason set to begin in two weeks, Michael Dickerson and Miles Simon have a tournament history that includes a sophomore year trip to the Sweet Sixteen and a national championship in their junior year. The final senior, Bennett Davison, who transferred to UA last year from West Valley Junior College, was also a major part of that national championship. And if you believe the experts, Arizona is destined for another Final Four appearance come March 28. No Arizona player has ever appeared in two Final Fours. The three seniors will go out in fitting fashion - a nationally-televised game against eighth-ranked Stanford that could give them their first Pacific 10 Conference title. "It would be a great cap to my career to win the Pac-10 Championship," Dickerson said. "That is one of the reasons I came here." The last time the two teams met on Jan 29., the Wildcats blew out then-No. 4 Stanford by 18 at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif. That game started a slight downfall for the Cardinal, which lost to Arizona State and Connecticut before finally regaining itself. "We lost some games," junior Pete Sauer said. "But, we've started to gain some confidence." Confidence is never a problem for Sauer, who seems to have stellar nights every time against UA. On Jan. 29, Sauer threw in a career-high 23 points. "I love playing Arizona," Sauer said. "Great teams bring out the best in me." Along with Sauer, the Cardinal (23-3 overall, 12-2 in conference) bring in a starting lineup of guards Arthur Lee and Kris Weems, forward Pete Van Elswyk and center Tim Young. The Wildcats are expected to go with their usual lineup of Simon, Mike Bibby, Dickerson, Davison and center A.J. Bramlett. Simon, Dickerson and Davison will be honored after the game along with senior team manager Nick Papanikolas. "It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting on the bench watching (former UA All-American and current Portland Trailblazer) Damon (Stoudamire)," Simon said. "(Winning the Pac-10 title) would be nice but the greatest cap to my career would be to win back-to-back championships." That of course, is the only unfinished business still on the agenda.
