Seniors make most of last game at McKale

It was their party, so they decided to be the life of it.

Playing in their last game at McKale Center Saturday, Arizona's trio of seniors - Bennett Davison, Michael Dickerson and Miles Simon - made their presence known as the Wildcats clinched the Pacific 10 Conference title in a 90-58 blowout of Stanford on Senior Day.

"It was just fun out there," Simon said. "Everyone was just having fun."

Simon had plenty to be happy about, scoring the first five points of the game on a three-pointer and a slam dunk down the lane. Simon finished with 20 points while dishing out eight assists.

"I just wanted to kill them," Simon said. "This was for the Pac-10 title and our last home game."

Providing the spark on the defensive end was Davison, who set a new school record with nine steals in the contest.

"Bennett Davison was absolutely fabulous on the defensive end of the floor," Arizona head coach Lute Olson said. "He had nine steals. But even more than that was that in terms of getting his hands on passes, he tipped away a number more of them."

The old record was held by Davison's teammate, sophomore Mike Bibby. Bibby had eight thefts last year against Texas.

"It was a great nine steals," junior center A.J. Bramlett said. "That is unheard of from a four man."

Davison and Bramlett combined to shut down Stanford's interior play. Forward Mark Madsen managed only 10 points, while center Tim Young recorded nine points and six rebounds.

After the first half, it looked like it was gong to be disappointing party for Dickerson. The small forward went scoreless in the 20 minutes, missing the four shots he attempted.

"I was not worried (about my scoring) because we were winning," Dickerson said.

And Dickerson made sure the Wildcats maintained their lead in the second half. He went 6 for 9, including two treys en route to scoring 15 points.

"I don't know the reason for that," Dickerson said about his ability to score more often on the south end of McKale. "I just came out and tried to play hard."

And at the end, the ladder was brought out and the nets were cut down.

"We finally got UCLA off the throne," Simon said.
