A 51-year-old Tucson man was treated and taken to a local hospital Saturday after university police received a report of a man having seizures and hallucinations at Kaibab-Huachuca Residence Hall, 922 E. Fourth St.

Police arrived at 11:08 a.m. and found the man in the dorm's lobby, where he told officers that he had just experienced a 10-second "blackout-type" seizure and that he was hearing voices telling him to drown himself, police reports stated.

The man also told police he had an alcohol and drug abuse problem, and that he drank a beer and took cocaine and barbiturates about 12 hours before the seizures started, reports stated.

Police contacted emergency medical technicians after the man said he had a history of heart problems and had attempted suicide in 1994, reports stated. Police then requested cardiac and mental examinations.

While waiting for medics, the man told police he was from Belfast, Northern Ireland and a member of the Irish Republican Army, reports stated.

The man also made several "negative comments" about the British and told police that their presence threatened him like the British. According to reports, the man's eyes darted around, he shifted in his chair and seemed very tense and preoccupied with one officer's holstered pistol.

A search of the man revealed no contraband, and he was then taken to Kino Community Hospital for treatment.

University police issued warnings to two students after somebody reported an odor of burning marijuana coming from a room at the Kaibab-Huachuca Residence Hall, 922 E. Fourth St.

Police went to the second-floor room about 2:11 a.m. and were hit with the strong odor of burnt marijuana when a 17-year-old male answered the door, police reports stated.

When asked if they could come in and talk the boy said "no," but police entered anyway to prevent the destruction of any possible evidence, reports stated.

The boy refused to let the officers search the room and told police he would not give them his name because they were violating his rights, but later identified himself with his driver's license.

Another student in the room told the officers they could search his side of the room, where they found a burnt marijuana "roach" laying on a desktop.

The student, 18, told police he and the other student smoked a joint together but there was no more marijuana in the room.

The 17-year-old student told police that it does not matter that he smokes marijuana because he does not believe it should be illegal, and that he would simply face the consequences if ever caught using it.

Police gave him a warning for drug paraphernalia possession and using marijuana, and then released him to his father, who arrived about 2:30 a.m., reports stated.

The other student was given the same warning and released, according to police reports. The roach was mostly paper and was destroyed because it would be unusable as evidence, reports stated.

A Center for Creative Photography employee June 3 told police she believes a woman who returned three photography books for a full refund had previously stolen the books from the gallery's gift shop, 1030 N. Olive Drive.

The employee told police the woman did not have a receipt when she came in to refund the books on June 1, but the shop refunded the $55.60 to the woman because they were busy and did not want the woman to "make a scene," police reports stated.

The employee told police the books are displayed at the front of the shop and would have been easy to steal. An inventory check revealed that the store had an extra book for each of the ones returned, and that the store had no record that one of the books was ever sold, reports stated.

Attempts to locate the woman with the information she gave the CCP were unsuccessful.

University police arrested a woman for an outstanding warrant Thursday after receiving reports of a man and woman rummaging through a trash container near La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave.

Police spotted the pair taking sinks from the container about 10:24 a.m., and discovered the woman, Debra L. Brown, 42, of the 1000 block of E. 24th St., had a warrant for her arrest from Maricopa County, police reports stated.

The woman was taken to the Pima County Jail where she awaits extradition and the man was warned for trespassing and then released, reports stated.

Police beat is compiled from official University of Arizona Police Department reports.
