Police Beat

University police arrested four students and a 19-year-old man on drug charges Saturday in a parking lot north of Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St.

Emily Farmer, 18, Meredith A. Messer, 18, Fracisco Zavala, 19, Lisa A. Geisler, 18, all Coronado Hall residents, and Jesse T. Lewis of Scottsdale, were each charged with marijuana possession and released.

A university police officer was driving in the lot with the patrol car's windows down about 9:50 p.m. when he spotted the five standing in a circle.

When the officer passed the group, a cloud of marijuana smoke blew through the car's passenger window, police reports stated.

The group scattered after seeing police, but the officer found a bag containing a "green leafy substance" where they had been standing.

No one would claim ownership of the bag, but Zavala and Farmer told police they had smoked "one hit" of an illegal drug.

Lewis told police he had not smoked marijuana for about a month.

Police found a pipe in Geisler's pocket, which Messer told officers was hers, reports stated.

University police arrested a 19-year-old male student Friday on drug charges at Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St.

A report of a marijuana smell prompted officers to visit Bradley Porter at his dorm room.

According to police reports, when officers arrived about 12:30 a.m. they detected a strong odor of air freshner and noticed a blanket had been shoved in the door crack.

While talking to Porter officers spotted a fan that had been directed toward an open window and several marijuana posters and drawings decorating the room's wall.

Porter denied smoking marijuana, but gave the officers a glass pipe, reports stated.

Police also found a silver pipe with residue, stems, seeds and a 40-ounce bottle of "Mickey's" malt liquor, which was poured out at UAPD headquarters, reports stated.

Porter was cited and released on drug paraphernalia charges.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested on drunken driving charges Friday after university police clocked her speeding on East Sixth Street.

It was the second time she was stopped that night.

Laura Lynne Macphee, of the 5500 block of East Mabel Street, was charged with DUI and DUI exceeding 0.1 percent blood alcohol content.

When police stopped Macphee about 1:20 a.m., she could not find her license, registration or insurance card, but showed the officer a citation she got earlier that night, according to police reports.

"I just got off work and just got a ticket for speeding," Macphee said, reports stated.

When police asked Macphee if she had been drinking, she reportedly said, "No, I'm the designated driver."

According to reports, when officers asked her to perform some field sobriety tests, Macphee became excited and told police she had just got her license back from her last DUI conviction.

She then admitted she had one 26-ounce beer that night and told police her blood alcohol content would be high because she had not drank in a while.

At UAPD, Macphee's breath test resulted in a 0.152 percent alcohol concentration. She was later released to a cab company.
