Briefly

Arizona and Oregon are not the only teams in the Pacific 10 Conference that are kicking off their year against a conference foe. UCLA officially gets the Pac-10 season started against Washington State tomorrow afternoon in Pullman, Wash. It will be the earliest game in both schools' history and will be regionally televised by ABC tomorrow afternoon at 12:30.

UCLA returns all five starters on the offensive line with each one weighing in at more than 300 lbs. The Bruins also return 1000 yard rusher Skip Hicks and quarterback Cade McNown.

Cougars quarterback Ryan Leaf, who had the greatest sophomore season in WSU history, should be stoked the team is starting at home for the first time since 1992.

Both teams finished 5-6 last season and were losers at the hands of the Wildcats.

By the Numbers

40:

Number of consecutive innings pitched by Arizona's Nancy Evans during the Wildcats' title run in last year's NCAA tournament. 40 softball innings translates to nearly 6 straight games in less than five days. 14 of those innings came in one game, a 2-0 win over UCLA on May 23. Evans went 4-1 in the college world series with an ERA of 1.57. Her arm seemed to only tire in the 3-0 loss to Fresno St. in the first game of the double-elimination semi-final.
