Arizona State running back J.R. Redmond ran for 176 yards on 10 carries and scored a touchdown as the the defending Pac-10 champions opened the season with a 41-10 victory over New Mexico State on Saturday. ASU quarterbacks Steve Campbell and Ryan Kealy, the replacements for four-year starter Jake Plummer, combined to throw three touchdown passes.

Briefly

The men's rugby team is holding meeting for anyone interested in playing Thursday at 4:00 pm in McKale Center. There are no cuts. The meeting is in room 108 B on the floor level, in the North end of the building. The team's first practice is next Tuesday at 4:00 pm at Mansfield Park located on N. 6th Ave., just south of Grant Road.

Total number of road wins that Arizona's women's soccer team recorded last season and the number of road wins this season after the weekend's sweep of Arkansas and Tulsa. It took until Sept. 20 for the first road win last season-a 1-0 defeat of Brown.

The Wildcats won another game away from home, a 6-2 win over Gonzaga. The game in Corvallis, Ore, however, was considered a neutral site.
