Wildcats tower over NAU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - The 11th-ranked Wildcats had planned on using its height advantage against Northern Arizona, but didn't figure it would work as well as it did in last night's 89-66 win at NAU's Walkup Skydome in front of 903 fans.

Senior 6-foot-4 center Marte Alexander scored 18 points, power forward Adia Barnes had 14 points and small forward Mikko Giordano added 11 as the Wildcats attempted only 12 shots beyond 10 feet away from the basket.

Alexander also contributed nine rebounds and two blocks. Monika Crank, who made all three of her three-point attempts, added 15 points for the Wildcats.

Leading 51-38 at the break, the Wildcats staged an 11-2 run to widen the gap.

Arizona's shooting cooled after a 67 percent first half as the Wildcats managed only 54 percent overall, but they held the Lumberjacks to 36 percent. Every Wildcat on the trip played in the game.

NAU committed 27 turnovers and made six of 17 three-point tries.

Northern Arizona's Marisa von Bromssen was the game's leading scorer with 19 points, hitting 5 of 8 three-point attempts. Tina Douglas-Pedrson added 12.
