Sidelines

UCLA center Jelani McCoy, suspended over two months ago, has been partially reinstated to the UCLA basketball team.

McCoy, a 6-foot-10 junior, and swingman Kris Johnson were suspended for violation of athletic department policies and team rules on Sept. 29. Johnson, a senior, was reinstated for practice on Nov. 17. It was reported that both players tested positive for marijuana.

McCoy will be allowed to participate in practice and other team functions - but not games at this point like Johnson.

"Jelani has done what was necessary for him to accomplish in order to be reinstated for practices," UCLA coach Steve Lavin said. "We are happy that he has made progress off the court and we are happy to have him back as a member of our team and family.

"We missed having him around, and I know he's missed being around the team. I believe he's learned a valuable life lesson."

UCLA plays its next game on Saturday against No. 8 New Mexico in the Wooden Classic at the Anaheim Arena. The Wildcats and Bruins first meet on Jan. 3 at McKale Center.

Time this evening that the FOX Sports Arizona television network is replaying Arizona's 28-16 upset over Arizona State in its entirety, after numerous phone calls requested it. FOX Sports Vice President/General Manager Todd Merkow didn't want to disappoint those who missed this year's inspiring "Duel in the Desert" saying, "Many people were gone for the holidays during this classic battle. For Wildcat fans who missed this terrific game, get your VCRs ready for Wednesday night."
