A Tucson man was arrested on assault charges Tuesday night after a university police officer saw him harassing a store clerk at Circle K, 977 E. Speedway Blvd., police reports stated.

The officer pulled into the store parking lot at 11:39 p.m. and saw a man reaching for the clerk behind the counter, reports stated.

The clerk told police that Carey S. Martinez-Farrar, 29, of the 0-100 block of West Kennedy Street, grabbed him and threatened to "kick his ass" after he repeatedly told Martinez-Farrar to leave.

Martinez-Farrar told police outside, "Yeah, I did all that - I'm guilty," reports stated.

He was booked into the Pima County Jail on an assault charge.

A 20-year-old student reported a personal foul to university police Tuesday after he was elbowed during a Monday-night basketball game at the Student Recreation Center, 1400 E. Sixth St.

The student told police that an opponent intentionally elbowed him in the eye during the 10 p.m. intramural basketball game, then refused to apologize.

He told police that neither he nor the fouler had the ball when he was struck, and that the other team laughed after the incident.

The student told police that after the bashing, the man said, "This is competitive. Things happen."

The student's teammates drove him to the hospital. Police were unable to reach two event supervisors who may have seen the incident.

A Tucson man was arrested on drug charges early Tuesday after cutting off a university police cruiser at North Cherry Avenue and East Helen Street, according to police reports.

An officer was driving north on Cherry Avenue at 12:27 a.m. when an eastbound 1997 Chevy Cavalier on Helen Street cut off the patrol car, police reports stated.

The officer had to brake to avoid a collision before starting a pursuit of the fleeing car, reports stated.

The Cavalier continued down Helen Street at speeds in excess of 45 mph, making several turns through the north-campus neighborhood before stopping in the 1200 block of East Speedway Boulevard, reports stated.

The car's driver, West K. Hill, 19, of the 4000 block of North Summit Ridge, got out with hands in the air while shouting, "OK, OK, you got me, you got me," reports stated.

When the officer got Hill's identification from his wallet, he spotted $395 in cash, reports stated.

The officer noticed an odor of fresh marijuana on Hill's clothing and saw several suspected marijuana buds strewn about the car's interior, reports stated.

During a subsequent search of the car's trunk, police found a duffel bag containing an electronic scale and a plastic bag containing 227.6 grams of suspected marijuana.

Hill told police the money and contraband were from a deal he made downtown, reports stated.

During the search, Hill reportedly told police, "All I want to do is sit around, get high and watch movies."

Hill was booked into the Pima County Jail on charges of possession and transportation of marijuana for sale, drug paraphernalia possession and fleeing from police.

A student called university police Tuesday afternoon to report that a man has been prank calling residents at Gila Residence Hall, 1009 E. North Campus Drive.

The student told police that she received a call from a man who said his name was "Steve" at 4:30 p.m.

She told police that she didn't know the man's voice and thought he was calling for her roommate until he said he wanted to talk to her.

She hung up on the man when she realized he was breathing heavily during the conversation, reports stated.

After the call, the student went to a neighbor's room to tell her about the incident. The neighbor said she had just hung up on the same man, reports stated.

Residents in four other rooms reported getting similar calls that day, adding that this has occurred frequently in the past.

University police Tuesday found two men not affiliated with the UA showering at Bear Down Gym, 1428 E. University Blvd.

The men were not students or staff members, but were using the showers and bathroom facilities at 12:30 p.m., police reports stated.

Police warned the men not to use UA facilities anymore.
