Six poets will be reading at "Poemas de Amor ... Mujeres Que Escribien" (that's "Poems of Love...Women Who Write" to all you laymen) from 7-9 tonight at the Aroma Cafe, 346 N. Fourth Ave. Two of the poets, Helen Gonzales and Jessica Jaramillo are UA students; another poet, Valerina Quintana, is a UA employee. Phone 623-2088. Also tonight "Hot Rod" Ron will be hosting the Kamp Radio presentation of Dead Bolt, Cadillac Angels, and Al Foul and the Shakes. What better way to get into a romantic Valentine's Day mood? The show begins at 9:00 p.m. at the Rialto Theatre, 318 E. Congress. All ages, bar with ID. Admission is $4. Phone 740-0126.

The Charles Darwin Experience

If you haven't done so already, catch a performance by The Charles Darwin Experience, a campus improvisational comedy troupe. The Experience will occur at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Spadefoot Cooperative Housing Project, 503 E. University Drive. The troupe also appears every Thursday in The Cellar, starting next week. Join the chuckles, and we promise you'll survive. Get your symphony suit pressed because the Arizona Opera performs Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte" at the Tucson Convention Center at 260 S. Black Lab

No Valentine? Or you have one, but no plans? In either case, grab your date, blow-up doll, or both and go to Club Congress, where KFMA and Budweiser are presenting Cupid's Carnival: For Lovers and Wannabe Lovers. The chaos will be chock full of kissing booths, drag queens and oysters. Performances by Days of the New and Black Lab, the up-and-coming San Francisco quartet, will begin at 9:30 p.m., followed by Mr.Lulu's Fashion Show. Admission is $10, 21 and over. Phone 622-8848.

Sunday Jazz Jams are back at the Cottonwood Club at 60 N. Alvernon Way. Free admission for musicians who come to jam, so what are you waiting for? Dust off your trombone and get over there. A core group plays the first and last sets; you do the rest. Cass Preston and the Individuals will be there tonight. Dinner and drink specials will be offered. Admission is $2 for Tucson Jazz Society members, $4 for non-members. Phone 743-3399.

The Dukes of York

In case you didn't know, the Plaza Pub located above the Airport Lounge at 20 E. Pennington, features free, live jazz. That's FREE live jazz! Tonight, Roaster will perform at 10:00 p.m. Regularly appearing are creatively named bands such as Crawdaddy-O and Hammertoes. The Dukes of York play every second Tuesday and the first, third and fourth Wednesday of every month. Phone 882-0400.

Fiesta de Los Vaqueros

Remember the exciting mechanical bull scene in "Urban Cowboy"? No? Refresh your memory at the 73rd La Fiesta de Los Vaqueros, America's largest outdoor mid-winter rodeo. The five-day fest o' the West starts with pre-rodeo events each day at 1:15 p.m., followed by the actual competitions at 2:00 p.m. Current and former world champions do the competing. Tickets are $8 Wednesday, $8 and $11 Thursday and Friday, and $9 and $14 Saturday and Sunday. Parking is $3. If you get up early on Thursday, you can see the Tucson Rodeo Parade at 9:00 a.m. The "oléeacute;s" start today and last through the 22nd, at Tucson Rodeo Grounds, 4823 S. Sixth Ave. Phone 741-2233.
