A rash of sickness and injury has forced key UA track athletes to remain sidelined for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Reno, Nev., this weekend. The meet represents the last chance UA athletes have to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Indianapolis on March 5-6.

"We have to feel somewhat disappointed that we are going into this meet weakened," head coach Dave Murray said. "We could have done some real damage this weekend."

Junior sprinter Carolyn Jackson will not compete this weekend due to a stomach virus. High jumper Tara Flaming will be absent for the second meet in a row, and will miss another opportunity to qualify for NCAAs. Junior distance runner Kristen Parrish will also be absent for her second week in a row. Junior pole-vaulter Jeff Dutoit remains questionable due to a stomach illness, but his vault last week in Flagstaff automatically qualified him for the championship.
