Jeremy McDaniel

From staff reports

Former UA wide receiver Jeremy McDaniel and fullback Paul Shields signed rookie free agent contracts after the NFL Draft.

McDaniel was picked up by the Buffalo Bills and Shields will go to the rival Indianapolis Colts.

Despite finishing second on the team in receiving yards (916) and receptions (58) last year, McDaniel went undrafted over the weekend as scouts questioned his speed and durability. McDaniel led Arizona in receiving touchdowns last year (9) and yards per catch (15.8).

Shields was used as an H-back, blocking for Pacific 10 Conference rushing leader Trung Canidate while also being used in short yardage situations.

He racked up 51 yards on 15 carries in 1998.

Still searching for work are former UA running back Kelvin Eafon and defensive tackle Daniel Greer.

Four Wildcats, led by consensus All-American Chris McAlister, were taken in the NFL Draft Saturday and Sunday.
