Happy terrain crunching

To the editor:

The November 30 account of an invention by UA mechanical engineers that allows a Jeep to "crunch over the roughest terrain" in the desert was inspiring. If they have any spare time, I wonder if they could work on a few other design improvements for off-road vehicles:

A biosensor to swerve the vehicle when it detects imminent collisions with desert tortoises, Pima pineapple cacti, and other slow-moving obstacles to the fullest enjoyment of the off-road experience

Antigravity lifters for use when traveling over cryptogamic soil, riparian habitats, archaeological sites, etc.

Optical scanner with character recognition and vocabulary module to kill the engine when passing signs reading "Designated Wilderness, Closed to Motorized Vehicles"

I realize that an ORV so equipped would have much less practical use and market appeal than, say, a cross between Bigfoot and a Sherman tank, but call it a thought experiment - virtual engineering, if you will.
