Legislature may change ABOR structure

Members of the Arizona Board of Regents Friday vehemently opposed three bills proposed by the state legislature - including one that would completely restructure the board.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 1008 would not only make ABOR an elected body but cut the eight-year term in half - a stipulation some members found upsetting.

The Arizona women's swimming and diving team won its first Pacific 10 Conference championship last weekend as they beat the 13-time defending champion Stanford Cardinal.
Since the inception of the Pac-10 Championships in 1987, Stanford had won every conference title.
"We came into this meet not expecting much because only five of our girls shaved," senior Trina Jackson said.

ASUA primaries have rolled around once again, and once again the student organization seems to be pleading for votes.
Returning Associated Students candidates are looking to improve the voter turnout tomorrow and most candidates are running on a platform of increasing student involvement.
After interviews with executive vice presidential and presidential candidates - the only positions affected by tomorrow's elections - the Wildcat has chosen candidates for the executive board who seem most fit to represent the University of Arizona student body.

Three bands kick off AZ Jazz week

AZ Jazz Week started in style yesterday with three bands taking the stage and entertaining audience members with a musical throwback to the 1920s.
The inaugural show, which began at 3 p.m. in the University of ArizonaCrowder Performance Hall, featured the Borderline 7 Dixieland "Jass" Band, the Olive Street Stompers and Jazzberry Jam, each playing a set of Dixieland jazz music.
The Borderline 7, from Nogales High School in Nogales, AZ, took the stage - dressed in black bowler hats and red bow ties - and launched into Jellyroll Morton's "The Chat."
