Last week, UA was ranked the No. 1 "Jock School" in the nation by the Princeton Review.

About 59,000 students participated in this "unscientific," nationwide survey.

To get our blue ribbon in the jock department, the active interest in intramural sports, low theater regard and sparse cigarette smokers all played a role.

I decided to conduct my own "unscientific" survey to check out the "jock" scene. Here are some of my favorite responses I caught from random UA students (males and females):

How many quarterbacks does the UA football team rotate into a game?

"Four." "Eight, I think?" "God, there's a lot of them." "Wait, for what sport is this?" "Let's see, how many quarterbacks are in a soccer game, football's the same, right?"

Correct response: two

Can you name them?

"Yeah, . . . right now?" "There's a lot of them, do I name them all?" "I can right before the game, we have different ones every week."

Correct response: Keith Smith and Ortege Jenkins

Do you attend UA football games? Why?

"Yes, they're fun." "Yes, right now they're a good social situation." "No, not much time." "No, I have no interest in that sport."

Do you attend UA basketball games? Why?

"Yes, if I have the time." Most common response: "Yes, if I can ever get tickets." "No, but my Dad makes me watch them with him."

Who do you think will lead the UA basketball team this year, Mike Bibby or Richard Jefferson? Why?

"Bibby, he went to my high school and was good." "Bibby, because I hear a lot about him on the news." "Jefferson, he has a better name."

Correct response: Jefferson has the more likely shot to make things happen since he's actually on the UA team. Bibby has gone on to the NBA.

Can you name two basketball players?

"How about past ones, do I get points for that?"

Match the following coaches up with their UA sport (three names and sports were given)

Dick Tomey (football): "Softball, he sounds like a soft guy."

Mike Candrea (softball): "Softball, by default he's the last one left."

Lute Olson (basketball): "Football, his name sounds like a good butch football name."

Bonus Question: Who do we play this week in football?

"Some middle-class team or something."

Correct Response: Middle Tennessee State

A few other noteworthy responses: "No, we don't have club teams at UA" (they're over 30, which include around 700 student participants); and "Yes, I've attended our NCAA Division I men's soccer games" (a miracle in itself because we don't have an NCAA team). My all-time favorite came from my roommate, who was disappointed she couldn't watch the UA/Penn State game because she didn't have tickets. But, once I informed her TV sets don't require ticket stubs to turn on, things were settled.

Hope you enjoyed these comical answers, and it should also be on record this was a random survey and they're were some "jocks" out there who knew their sports, but right answers aren't as amusing, are they?

So, is UA a "Jock School"? You make the call.
