Res Life changes network policy to crack down on Napster

The widely used Internet music trading software Napster has not been banned from the UA Residence Computing network, though several provisions to deter students from using large amounts of bandwidth have been added.
Steve Gilmore, assistant director of University of Arizona Residence Life, said Napster has not been singled out by the ResComp network, but that there are several provisions in the acceptable use policy that would prohibit the use of Napster and similar programs.

Barnes takes aim at U.S. Open

Ricky Barnes is not spending his summer like most UA students.
After finishing third overall at the NCAA Men's Golf National Championships in late May, the reigning NCAA Freshman of the Year qualified for the 100th U.S. Open.
Barnes will take his talents to the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif., tomorrow to face the world's best golfers.

She's at it again. But this time, Rep. Jean McGrath, R-Glendale, echoes the voices of the House Republicans and concurs with the opinion of the Senate majority.
The other catch is that she isn't whining about sex-ridden dormitories or corrupted college students. The issue here is funding for education.

Celestial Skate Park gives skaters, bikers a break from the heat

For Tucson community skate boarders, in-line skaters and BMX riders, finding a place to ride has always been difficult.
With Saturday's opening of the Celestial Skate Park, 847 N. Stone Ave., they now have a central place to go - complete with ramps, music and a host of other benefits.
"It's awesome. It's been so long since we've had something like this," said University of Arizona aeronautical engineering freshman Barry Gibbs.
