A man was arrested on suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession Sunday afternoon when an officer stopped the vehicle he was riding in, police reports stated.

An officer was on patrol near East Grant and North Craycroft roads when he noticed a Ford Probe jump halfway onto the median and then fall back into traffic, reports stated.

According to reports, the officer stopped the vehicle and noticed a handgun in a holster on the car's dashboard.

University police told Michael O'Bryon, 39, of the 4200 block of Camino de Palmas and the driver to get out of the car with their hands up, reports stated.

The driver said his friend gave him the gun the night before, reports stated.

According to reports, the officer noticed O'Bryon had something in his pocket and O'Bryon said it was a knife.

When the officer reached into O'Bryon's pocket to retrieve the knife, O'Bryon said, "that's going to be a problem," reports stated.

Police discovered a smoking device along with a knife in O'Bryon's pocket, reports stated.

The smoking device had suspected marijuana residue inside of it, reports stated.

O'Bryon was cited on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and released at the scene.


A 17-year-old boy was arrested early Sunday morning for reportedly shoplifting from a campus-area convenience store, reports stated.

An officer was on patrol near Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. Fifth St. at about 1 a.m. when he noticed a boy running in an alley west on Fifth carrying a 12-pack of beer under his arm, reports stated.

When the boy saw the police car he stopped running, turned around and ran in the opposite direction, reports stated.

According to reports, police suspected the boy stole the beer from the Texaco Star Mart, 501 N. Park Ave.

Police caught up to the boy in the alley at East Sixth Street between North Park and North Tyndall avenues, reports stated.

The officer asked the boy if he stole the 12-pack of beer from the Star Mart and the boy said yes, reports stated.

According to reports, the boy said he was going to "sell it to make some money."

The Star Mart employee told police the boy had just taken the beer from the store, reports stated.

The employee said the boy walked into the store, went to the beer cooler, removed the pack of beer and ran out of the store without paying for it, reports stated.

The boy was cited on suspicion of shoplifting and possession of tobacco products. He was released to his parents.


A student was robbed Sunday night after a man with a gun jumped out of a car and stole her purse, reports stated.

The student said she was walking with a friend to Pinal Residence Hall, 1511 E. Sixth St., at about 9 p.m. when they noticed a bluish-silver car parked west on the north side of East Fifth Street, reports stated.

The student said the vehicle drove up to them and a man with a pistol in his hand got out of the vehicle and approached them, reports stated.

According to reports, the man grabbed her arm, pointed the gun at her and demanded her purse.

The man took the purse off her arm, got back into the vehicle and drove west on Fifth, reports stated.

The women said they could not give police an accurate composite sketch because the incident happened so quickly and the lighting conditions were bad, reports stated.


A student reported Sunday evening a man attempting to take his bicycle while it was parked near a UA building, reports stated.

The student said his bicycle was parked on the east side of the Social Sciences Building, 1145 E. South Campus Drive at about 6 p.m., reports stated.

According to reports, the student saw a man with a pair of wire cutters attempting to sever the lock cable on his bicycle.

The student asked the man what he was doing and the man placed the wire cutters in his pocket and asked, "Is this your bike?" reports stated.

According to reports, the student left to call police and when he returned the man was gone.
