UA football player faces domestic assault charges
[news]
A UA football player was charged with three criminal violations last week - including domestic violence assault - after he allegedly pushed his wife, prompting her to lock herself in a bathroom. University of Arizona head football coach Dick Tomey yesterday said he is prohibited from commenting about the incident or the decision to start Manuia Savea, senior right tackle, during Saturday's game against the University of Oregon.

Woods set for spotlight
[news]
After riding the pines for a year, Loren Woods is eager to get back on the court, this time in a Wildcat uniform. Woods, a 7-foot-1 junior center from St. Louis, transferred to Arizona from Wake Forest before the 1998-99 school year. He had to sit out last season, but was allowed to practice with the team. Going head-to-head with former UA center A.J. Bramlett everyday in practice made Woods a better player and gave him a year to master the Arizona system.

Strength comes from commitment
[news] This week, in the shadow of the doomed Memorial Student Union, students again demonstrated their commitment to making the world a better place through a commitment to volunteerism, diversity and free speech. Fall service week, a series of volunteer activities on the mall with Project Volunteer, is the most visible demonstration of how university students work to improve themselves and their city.

UA professor explores modern media through sci-fi, 'virtual learning'
[news]
When most people hear the word alien, they think of little green men with big black eyes being chased around by uptight FBI drones wearing trench coats. In Media Arts 335, Daniel Bernardi completely redefines the media's conception of aliens. "Signs of Aliens" generally focuses on new media, race studies and science fiction. Bernardi said, "The alien is used as a pretext for students to think critically of modern culture in media."

-Bill Handel, fertility expert and founder of the Beverly Hills-based Center for Surrogate Parenting Inc. and Egg Donation Inc. His firm has 350 women in its database, and they get $2,500 to $3,000 for an egg. Ronsangels.com opened yesterday offering eggs from models for the highest bidder.
