Talk about this story

University police arrested a UA student and another man Wednesday evening after finding suspected marijuana in their possession, police reports stated.

The officer was driving south on North Cherry Avenue at about 7:50 p.m. when he noticed a red Nissan truck driving erratically. The truck made a quick turn onto East Mabel Street and quickly accelerated westbound, reports stated.

The officer noticed the truck speed up, then slow down as it passed the yield sign at the intersection of North Vine Avenue and Mabel, reports stated. According to reports, the truck sped up to 40 mph, and the officer pulled the truck over.

Trevor Kimbler, 18, of La Paz Residence Hall, 602 N. Highland Ave., was driving the 1997 Nissan pickup truck, and he apologized to the officer for speeding and said he was in a hurry to get to a friend's house, reports stated.

When Kimbler reached into his pants pocket to retrieve his driver license, the officer noticed a clear plastic baggie sticking out of his jacket pocket, reports stated. The officer asked Kimbler what was in the baggie, and Kimbler became silent for a moment.

According to reports, the officer asked Kimbler to remove items from the jacket pocket. Kimbler removed a baggie containing a green, leafy substance that the officer suspected was marijuana, reports stated.

After asking Kimbler to exit the vehicle, police searched him and found another baggie containing a green, leafy substance in his left, front pants pocket, reports stated.

The officer told Kimbler to sit on the curb while he searched Kimbler's friend, Nathaniel Matesich, 18, of the 2500 block of West Saguaro Bluffs Drive, reports stated.

The officer observed Matesich place something on the floorboard of the pickup as he exited the vehicle, reports stated.

The officer told Matesich he saw what he did and asked Matesich what the object was, reports stated.

Matesich said it was "the same stuff," reports stated.

Police cited both men for suspicion of unlawful possession of marijuana.

Kimbler was also cited on suspicion of speeding.

After police searched the pickup and found no more contraband, the men were released.

Police arrested a man early Wednesday morning after observing him make an unsafe lane change, reports stated.

The officer was driving westbound on East Speedway Boulevard near North Euclid Avenue when he saw a 1987 Cadillac four-door sedan weaving in the far left lane, reports stated.

According to reports, the car crossed the right lane divider by two inches, went back into the far left lane, then made a lane change to the center lane without signaling. The lane change cut off a car in the center lane, reports stated.

The officer pulled the car over at Speedway and North First Avenue.

According to reports, the driver of the car, David Hargrove, 20, of the 500 block of West Orange Grove Road, had a moderate odor of alcohol on his breath.

The officer asked Hargrove if he had been drinking, and he said no, reports stated.

Hargrove reversed his story after the officer told him he smelled alcohol on his breath. He then said he had two and a half beers, reports stated.

Hargrove agreed to take standard field sobriety tests.

After Hargrove took the breathalyzer test, police cited him on suspicion of a minor operating a motor vehicle with liquor in his body, driving under the influence of alcohol/impaired, driving under the influence of blood alcohol content more than .10, and unsafe lane change.

Hargrove was released to a friend.
