The UA men's and women's swimming team began their 1999-2000 season in dominating style by cruising to victory over the UNLV Runnin' Rebels Saturday.

The men won their meet by a score of 195.5-95.5, while the women notched their victory with 227-67 mark at the Buchanan Natatorium.

Senior Ryk Neethling said the trip was a "good meet for the freshman just to get a feel for NCAA swimming."

Neethling, a defending NCAA champion, was a three-event winner for the Wildcats, as he picked up wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9 minutes, 13.7 seconds), the 200 free (1:38.75) and the 500 free (4:26.6).

"I am really happy about this," Neethling said. "This keeps my unbeaten streak going, it's been three years and it is hard keeping this thing going."

Posting another notable performance for the men's squad was sophomore Roland Schoeman, who was victorious in the 50 free (29.73) and in the 100 butterfly (49.47).

For the women, senior Trina Jackson won the 1,000 free (9:54.5) and the 500 free (4:52.59).

Freshmen Beth Botsford and Amanda Beard also notched two victories each.

Botsford won the 100 backstroke (56.98) and the 200 backstroke (2:01.21), while Beard won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.59) and the 200 breaststroke (2:16.59).
