University police arrested a UA student Thursday morning after a security guard watched him shoplift from the U of A Bookstore, police reports stated.

Billy Mullins, 18, of the 900 block of North Seventh Street, was at the bookstore, 1209 E. University Blvd., at about 9:30 a.m. when a security guard saw him steal some pens and a pencil, reports stated.

The guard told police he saw Mullins take a two-pack of pens and an automatic pencil and put them in the front pockets of his jeans, reports stated.

The guard said he watched Mullins walk to the exit of the bookstore.

The guard stopped Mullins as he opened the door to leave, and the guard detained him while the UAPD was notified.

Mullins completed a voluntary report admitting to taking the pens and pencil, and he was fully cooperative.

A surveillance tape of the incident was taken into evidence by UAPD, reports stated.

The two-pack of pens is valued at $6.99, and the pencil is valued at $3.78, reports stated.

Mullins was cited on suspicion of theft less than $150 and released.

The letters "SAE" were painted in blue over the "PIKE" letters, reports stated.

Below those words were two instances of "FAQ" spray-painted in blue and one instance of "JOB" spray-painted in white.

The fraternity member didn't know who spray-painted the words on the house, reports stated.
