UA provost to step down
[news]
Paul Sypherd, UA provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, announced yesterday that he will be stepping down from his position at the end of the academic year. Sypherd said yesterday that he wanted a change from the administrative duties that have defined his job for seven years.

A quiet giant

Perhaps UA head coach Lute Olson said it best after the Wildcats 84-60 win over New Mexico State on Friday night. "Thank goodness for Michael Wright in the first half," he said. Wright dominated the half against the Aggies, shooting 6-of-9 from the field for 15 points and pulling down seven rebounds. "We rode Michael Wright because he was feeling it," said sophomore swing forward Richard Jefferson.

Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood
[news] This past Sunday, I had an opportunity to sit in on a debate between a group of misunderstood men whose personas are in need of re-evaluation. The debate that I sat in on was the Arizona Republican debate held at Arizona State University. While the debate started at 8 p.m., my companion and I took our seats about a half hour early. While sitting, I occupied myself by thinking about the four men who would shortly occupy the stage in the Gammage Auditorium.

A creative journey
[news]
It only took an extensive creative writing workshop to get the ballpoint pen rolling for Debra Gregerman, who now teaches English at the UA. After having several poems published in literary journals, her first book, "Jealousy and the Things You Are Not," was published by the Owl Creek Press last month. Gregerman started out with a B.F.A. in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design.

"He was honest beyond reproach."

-Roger Hill, speaking yesterday about his father, former UA professor Fredrick Hill. The professor died Friday night after suffering an apparent heart attack during a game at McKale Center.
