A student was arrested Saturday night after university police saw him drinking in front of a residence hall, police reports stated

Police saw Scott Miller, 18, of the 1800 block of East Campbell Avenue, standing outside Coronado Residence Hall, 822 E. 5th St., at about 10:30 p.m., reports stated.

The officers noticed Miller was drinking a can of beer, reports stated.

When police approached Miller, he put the can on the ground behind his feet, reports stated.

According to reports, officers asked Miller for identification and he gave them a California driver license that showed he was underage.

Police noticed the student's breath smelled strongly of alcohol and his eyes were red and watery, reports stated.

Miller was arrested on suspicion of minor in possession and drinking in public.

When police informed Miller of the citations, he reportedly became very agitated.

He asked police why he was being singled out of the group. Miller said he wasn't "drunk" and he'd had only one beer that night, reports stated.

An officer told Miller he was the only student holding a beer and drinking while on a public street, reports stated.

Miller accused the officer of calling him "stupid" and asked the officer for his name and badge number, reports stated.

Police told Miller that information was already on his citation.

Miller continued to interrupt the officer and began to move around, reports stated.

According to reports, the officer told Miller to "shut up and listen."

Police gave Miller a copy of the citation and the student continued to be confrontational, reports stated.

Miller said he had the right to say whatever he wanted and he objected to the officer telling him to "shut up," reports stated.

Miller approached the officer and motioned toward his face, reports stated.

Police then handcuffed Miller and transported him to his residence.

The man said loud music had been coming from the fraternity house since 10 p.m., and he had reported the disturbance twice earlier that night. The neighbor said the noise has been an ongoing problem, reports stated.

The officers could hear loud music coming from the fraternity, reports stated.

The officer spoke with the students and asked them if they had been drinking.

The two women said they hadn't been drinking, but the man said he had several beers earlier that night, reports stated.

The officer asked to look inside the man's backpack. The man said "yes, but there are some beers in it," reports stated.

Police removed the cans beer and disposed of them.

The officer enrolled the student in the UA's Diversion Program, reports stated.
