Makeshift hotel-dorms lacking appropriate security
Students, parents upset with hotel safety, distance from campus
Students relocated to hotels due to the housing shortage might enjoy the luxurious surroundings, but many of their parents are concerned about hotel security.
Lindsey Lakia, a freshman pre-business major whose mother is an attorney, said her parents are "not happy at all" about her present accommodations at the Four Points Sheraton, 1900 E. Speedway Blvd.

Wildcat swimming and diving excited for new season
Busch: "We're going to be a team that's going to contend"
The season after the UA women's and men's swimming and diving teams finished in fifth and sixth place respectively at last year's NCAA Championships, this year's squad is ready to capitalize on experience and the addition of incoming freshmen.
Frank Busch, the head coach for both teams, is staying conservative with preseason predictions, but said he thought both teams would do well.

Many incoming students unaware of ILC
Despite elaborate plans, many incoming students have not heard of new facility
As the final stages of completion are taking place at the Integrated Learning Center, one major detail seems to have been overlooked - some few freshmen don't actually know what it is.
The ILC, a $21 million facility dedicated to the freshman class of 2001, houses four lecture halls, 10 classrooms, advising and office space and a computer commons, all geared toward helping new students' transition into academic life at the University of Arizona.

Last football scrimmage shows improved offense
How excited was UA head coach John Mackovic with his team's performance in last night's scrimmage?
For starters, the 57-year old coach voluntarily did 20 push-ups with his team at the end of last night's scrimmage at Arizona Stadium.
"That's really good to see him so enthusiastic about our team," UA freshman quarterback John Rattay said. "It shows a lot of character."

Letters to the Editor
Lee Column 'absurd'
Well, I knew it wouldn't take long for Jessica Lee to start shooting off her liberal mouth. I am sure all my conservative counterparts on campus were both laughing and shaking their heads when they read (yesterday's) "shrinking world" commentary. Lee is correct when stating that the world is becoming smaller in terms of technology, but her suggestion that we are all going to hate President Bush and march to a liberal tune is absurd!

Transcontinental Tunes
Season's performers hail from faraway nations
A world of music is coming to town for a showcase of talents that range from African blues all the way to Japanese drumming.
This season, UA is sponsoring events that shy away from the mainstream of music. Instead, it is presenting a wide range of music targeted toward a more mature and eclectic audience.
