Officials have not ruled out tie to Oct. 3 incident.
A 22-year-old woman was physically and sexually assaulted Wednesday afternoon near campus, the third sexual assault in the UA area in the past month, TPD officials said.
Sgt. Judy Altieri, spokeswoman for Tucson Police Department, said that although it is too early to tell, police have not ruled out the possibility of the Oct. 3 assaults on the 800 block of East Adams Street being related to the Wednesday incident.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a sexual assault in the 1400 block of East Blacklidge Street, which is about three miles north of the University of Arizona.
Upon arrival, officers found that a male suspect entered the home of the 22-year-old female victim and sexually assaulted her.
Altieri said the victim was also physically assaulted.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, with short blond hair, approximately 5-foot-8, with a thin build.
Altieri said she believed the woman was not a student of the University of Arizona.
This is the second UA area sexual assault to occur in TPD's jurisdiction.
On Oct. 3, a UA student was both physically and sexually assaulted at her home on the 800 block of East Adams Street.
On Oct. 18, a man attempted to sexually assault two UA students as they were walking on campus along East Second Street near North Martin Avenue.
Cmdr. Brian Seastone, spokesman for the University of Arizona Police Department, said the Oct. 18 incident did not seem to be related to the Oct. 3 incident.
Altieri said although there are leads on the Oct. 3 incident, it is still under investigation.
"Sexual assault, just like any other major investigation, could take months or years. It all depends on how the investigation goes," Altieri said.
Seastone said UAPD is urging students to take their personal safety seriously.
"What we're trying to do is let people know about safe practices - things like the ASUA's SafeRide service," he said.
Altieri said TPD is working closely with UAPD on all of the incidents.
Anyone with information relating to any of the incidents should call 911, 88-CRIME or 791-4492.
