The weather in Tucson may be cooling off, but the water in Hillenbrand Aquatic Center is heating up, especially when the UA swimming and diving teams are at home.
Last weekend, the Wildcats swept a trio of teams from California. On Friday, USC came to Tucson to challenge the No. 5 Wildcat women and the 8th-ranked men. The Wildcat women easily upset their No. 3-ranked opponents 140-104, while the men needed every point they could get as they edged the No. 5 Trojans 122-121 for an upset of their own.
Leading the way for the men was senior Roland Schoeman, who was making his first appearance of the season after missing the opening meet. His 50m free time of 20.99 seconds was good enough for first place as well as NCAA qualifying consideration.
Helping out on the diving end for the men was Omar Ojeda, who took home first place in his second-consecutive diving meet. Sarah Tolar had an impressive day of her own, posting two NCAA consideration times in the 100m and 200m free.
Saturday, the women continued their domination over southern California as they took first place in 12 of 13 events en route to their 138-99 victory over the UCLA Bruins. The men were also successful on the latter day of the two-day schedule, beating the California All-Stars 116-87.
The men and women both improved to records of 3-0 in dual meets in this early season. The Cats will now enjoy a weekend break before heading to Austin for the Texas Invitational on November 30th for a three-day competition.
