Suspect identified in UA student's murder

Chinese and local authorities focus search for suspect in China

The Tucson Police Deparatment named a suspect yesterday in the double murder of a Universty of Arizona doctoral student and his wife.

Tucson Police Department identified Wenshi Zhou, 37, as the suspect in the Nov. 3 murder of UA student Jianquing Yang, 32 and his wife Yu Yun Chen, 33, in their midtown apartment.

The couple was found by their 6-year-old daughter, who called 911 to report that she couldn't wake her parents.

Hiring freeze will not end

President's signature no longer required to employ new faculty, staff

The university-wide hiring freeze will not be lifted, but filing for an exception under the freeze will be easier than before, UA President Peter Likins announced yesterday afternoon.

Under the modified freeze, Likins' signature is no longer required to hire new faculty or staff. Now, only a vice president's signature must be obtained to approve an exception.

Freshmen look to make impact in top-heavy Pac-10

Loaded with new talent, the future of the Pacific 10 Conference appears to be bright. After all, most of the top players in the conference are young, talented and ready to make an impact. No schools will benefit more from the youth movement than the Pac-10's elite teams. With the departure of underclassmen to the NBA Draft - a trend that left the UA men's basketball team without three anticipated starters - freshmen are being forced into playing leadership roles.
