UA physics department awarded $500,000
Grant will assist current students in finding future teaching jobs
A new national program has awarded $500,000 to the UA physics department to assist students who want to become science teachers.
The University of Arizona was one of six schools across the nation to be selected for the Physics Teacher Education Coalition Award. Overall, nine schools were evaluated to receive the award.

For the first time in 14 years, a new face will patrol the Arizona sidelines as head coach.
Tonight's game will mark the regular-season debut of John Mackovic, who replaced former head coach Dick Tomey in December.

Tucson to build more medians to reduce pedestrian accidents
Construction of new streetlights, 'refuges' begins next summer
The city of Tucson will begin construction next summer on a series of traffic medians and streetlights, in an attempt to alleviate pedestrian-related traffic accidents.
As the result of a 1994 initiative passed by city voters, the Tucson Department of Transportation will commence construction in August or September of 2002 to erect more streetlights along Euclid Avenue, and pedestrian median refuges on Euclid Avenue at Second Street and Fifth Street.

Arizona Volleyball set to travel to the
First weekend will have post-season implications
The Arizona women's volleyball team travels to Gainesville, Fla. this weekend for its first game of the 2001 season in the SunTrust Invitational.
Tomorrow, the Wildcats will play a doubleheader vs. South Florida and Marshall and will conclude its play Saturday vs. No. 9 Florida.

Kelly Ward letter like a broken record
Poor, poor delusional Kelly! I applaud the Young Democrats president for her attempt to appeal to the average American. I certainly expected someone of her character, someone who turned away incoming freshmen Republicans who wanted voter registrations (an illegal action if I may add) at the summer freshmen orientations, to write such a commentary. Ward sounds like a broken record.
