A person driving a gray van managed to elude police Monday afternoon after the driver ran two red lights and hit a curb, reports stated.

Police first tried to pull over the driver at the corner of East Sixth Street and North Campbell Avenue for speeding. Police also noticed debris flying off the van, reports stated.

The van sped up and almost collided with another vehicle. Police followed it when it ran a red light at the corner of East Broadway Boulevard and North Campbell Avenue, reports stated.

The van made several turns and sped up to 70 mph in an attempt to lose police, reports stated.

A bike on the back of the van blocked the vehicle's license plate, precluding police from identifying the vehicle, reports stated.

The driver hit a curb while on North Tucson Boulevard and broke the passenger-side running board. Police thought is sounded as if the van had a flat tire, reports stated.

The van continued to speed and police followed. The van ran another red light at East Speedway Boulevard and North Elm Street, reports stated. Police stopped following the van shortly thereafter.

In tracing back the van's trail, police found skid marks on North Bentley Avenue. It looked like the van had jumped the curb, hitting a mailbox and dragging a trash can out on to the street, reports stated.

Police told the resident about his mailbox and trashcan. He had not seen any of it happen, reports stated.

A description of the van was placed into police reports.


Someone stole the rear tire off a student's bike Sunday while it was parked at Babcock Inn Residence Hall, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd., reports stated.

The owner told police he had locked the bike around 7:30 p.m., and when he returned a few hours later, he noticed the tire was gone.

Police have no suspects or witnesses, reports stated.


Police arrested a man Sunday night for drinking in public and trespassing at Circle K, 1610 E. Sixth St., reports stated.

When police arrived, they saw the man sitting outside Circle K, drinking a 12-ounce can of Bud Light. The man appeared drunk, reports stated.

When police asked the man to leave, he told police he didn't want to leave and asked them to put him in jail, reports stated.

The Circle K clerk told police he wanted to press charges for trespassing.

The man was asked to leave several more times but refused.

When police told the man he was under arrest, the man stood up, lost his balance and fell down, reports stated.

The man was handcuffed and became uncooperative. He made his body go limp and refused to move, reports stated.

Police had to pick him up and carry him to their car.

The man was booked into Pima County Jail.


Two students were cited with minor in possession charges Sunday night in front of the Delta Chi fraternity house, 1701 E. First St., reports stated.

Police asked the students for their IDs after they saw the students carrying three 18-packs of Natural Ice beer.

One of the students handed police a fake ID. The other student gave police an ID that showed he was under 21, reports stated.

Police asked the student with the fake ID where he got it, and the student told police he got the fake ID from a friend. The student said, "OK, officer. I'm actually 18, and I'm sorry about this," reports stated.

Police confiscated the beer, and the students were released.


A student's car was damaged by another car Saturday night while parked in a Zone 1 parking lot, 1425 E. Sixth St., reports stated.

The student parked the car around 7 p.m., and when he returned 20 minutes later, he saw a 12-inch scrape in the rear wheel.

Police have no suspects or witnesses.


Police detained a man at a Mobil Gas Station, 2402 N. First Ave., around noon on Monday because he was suspected of fraud, reports stated.

The Pima Country Sheriff's Office asked UAPD to detain the man after he made a phone call from the gas station.

When police arrived, they saw the man matched the description of the man the sheriff's office was looking for.

The man was taken into custody, reports stated.
