Long Beach State put the finishing touches on a three-game sweep of the Arizona baseball team Saturday with a 4-2 win.

49er starter Jason Vargas (3-4) yielded five hits and no runs in seven innings of work to earn the win. UA's Kevin Guyette (3-3) suffered the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits in 5.1 innings.

No. 17 Arizona (11-10-1) didn't get on the board until the top of the eighth, when junior Pat Reilly smacked his third homer of the year, a solo shot. Sophomore Jordan Brown was the only UA player to amass more than one hit, going 2-for-4.

Arizona fell to 6-10-1 since winning its first five games of the year. The Wildcats have lost nine straight games against the No. 10 49ers.

Friday, LBSU jumped ahead by five early and cruised to a 10-2 win. UA's Luis Cortez allowed eight runs in 4.2 innings to pick up his second loss.

Moises Duran went 3-for-4, with a single, double and triple in the game.

In Thursday's series opener, Arizona could find no answer for 49er ace and All-America candidate Jered Weaver (7-0), who allowed three hits in seven innings of scoreless ball. LBSU reliever Brian Anderson chipped in the final two innings to earn the 4-0 shutout.

Arizona starter Koley Kolberg (2-2) got his second loss in a complete-game effort. He allowed four runs on 12 hits, striking out five.

The Wildcats begin Pacific 10 Conference play this weekend with a three-game home set against Washington State. First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 7 p.m.
