Police used K-9s in Safford March 23 at 10 p.m. to secure a mobile home at 826 S. Eighth Ave. with a possible burglar inside, reports stated.

The house was barricaded, and the owner's ex-husband was thought to be inside, "lying in wait" for her to return, reports stated.

The ex-husband had made previous death threats and was just released from prison. Police were advised that there was a shotgun and several handguns inside the home with the possible suspect, reports stated.

A K-9 ranger was sent in the home after police said, "Attention in the house ÷ this is the K-9 police, come out now or I will send a dog in to bite you," reports stated.

The ranger was instructed to search the interior of the house and returned a short time later indicating that the house was clear, reports stated.

Safford police manually searched the house and no suspect was found, reports stated.


An abandoned, tan Oldsmobile was found Thursday in a Zone 1 lot at 1940 E. Helen St., reports stated.

The vehicle was unsecured and the steering column was broken open, reports stated.

Police were not able to locate an owner, and the vehicle was not reported stolen, reports stated.

Police have no suspects or witnesses, and the vehicle is being stored at Tucson Wrecker, 1926 W. Price St., reports stated.


A student's $280 Tyndall parking permit was stolen and her front driver's side window was broken at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday while it was parked in Tyndall Garage, 880 E. Fourth St., reports stated.

The student last saw her car at noon on March 23, and a garage employee discovered the damage to the vehicle, reports stated.

The owner was told to contact UAPD if anything else was discovered stolen, reports stated.

Police have no suspects or witnesses.


Someone damaged a $235 card reader in the Main Gate Garage, 815 E. Second St., sometime between midnight and 7:35 a.m. Wednesday, reports stated.

The card reader was located in the northeast corner of the garage entrance, and the post was bent at the base, reports stated.

The side mirror of a vehicle striking the post could have done the damage, reports stated.

The post has been replaced and Parking and Transportation Services does not want to press charges.


A $4,500 Yamaha motorcycle was stolen from a Zone 1 lot at 945 N. Palm Road sometime between 9:45 a.m. March 23 and 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, reports stated.

Police searched the area where the motorcycle had been parked but did not find anything, reports stated.

The owner of the motorcycle said he did not know who could have stolen it, and he was the only one with keys to the vehicle, reports stated.

Police have no suspects or witnesses, and the owner will press charges if a suspect is found.


Someone spray-painted the word "Shock" in red on the west wall of a Zone 1 lot at East Fort Lowell Road and North Mountain Avenue sometime during the night of March 23, reports stated.

A PTS employee reported the damage at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, reports stated.

There was evidence that the area of the wall that the graffiti was on had been damaged before. The previous graffiti was removed with a sandblaster, reports stated.

Police have no suspects or witnesses.


A student witnessed a bike theft at around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday at the bike racks in front of the Education building, 1430 E. Second St., reports stated.

The student was walking from the Education building to the Administration building when she saw a man cut the cable lock of a red mountain bike with an unknown object, reports stated.

The student said she could identify the man if she saw him again and could not tell police who the owner of the bike was, reports stated.

A pair of sunglasses was found near the area of bicycle. The student could not tell police if the sunglasses belonged to the man.

Police placed the sunglasses and cut lock into evidence.
