Coming off three straight wins and another jump in the rankings, the No. 21 Arizona men's tennis team looks to win another pair of matches, against Oregon today and Washington Sunday.
"They're two very big matches for us, two Pac-10 matches. The guys are healthy, so we're going in there ready to win," said UA assistant coach Tad Berkowitz.
Oregon (8-6, 0-2 Pacific 10 Conference) is led by Sven Swinnen, the No. 38 player in the nation. The Ducks lost their last two matches at California and Stanford, and have struggled against Arizona in the past. The Wildcats (11-6, 0-2) lead the all-time series 7-1.
Washington has played well enough this year to hold its No. 19 preseason ranking. The Huskies (11-6, 1-1) have the nation's No. 6 singles player in Alex Vlaski, who will be matched up against Wildcat sophomore Roger Matalonga.
Matalonga won his 20th match of the season last week. He has lost only six matches while defeating several opponents ranked higher than his 64th slot.
Berkowitz praised Matalonga for his accomplishment.
"He's worked so hard this year, and he deserves all the credit he has received," he said.
Washington's other ranked player is No. 43 Alex Slovic, who will likely face senior Whi Kim.
After being shorthanded last week against Arizona State, the Wildcats will once again have the services of sophomore Daniel Andrus, who was out with flu-like symptoms.
"Daniel is back and ready to go," Berkowitz said.
