The Arizona men's golf team will begin play at the NCAA West Regionals next week in Sunriver, Ore.
The Pac-10 Champion Wildcats will face 26 other teams tomorrow through Saturday at the Crosswater Club course. The top 10 finishers will advance to the NCAA Championship to be held June 1 in Hot Springs, Va.
No. 6 Arizona was selected to participate in a regional for the 16th straight year after winning the Pacific 10 Conference Championships last time out on April 28.
Last week, the UA swept the conference's yearly awards. Senior Chris Nallen won Pac-10 Golfer of the Year, Pac-10 Championship winner Henry Liaw won Freshman of the Year, and head coach Rick LaRose won Coach of the Year.
If they qualify, the Wildcats will seek their second national title at the NCAAs. The UA last won in 1992.
Women's golf readies for NCAA Championship
The UA women's golf team will travel to Auburn, Ala., this week for the NCAA Championship.
Arizona, which finished second last weekend at the NCAA Central Regional in Normal, Ill., will compete against a 24-team field at the championship, held yesterday through tomorrow at the Grand National Lake Course.
Sophomore Erica Blasberg won last weekend's regional with a score of 1-under par. It was her fourth individual win of the season.
Blasberg finished third at last year's NCAAs as a freshman.
The UA will be chasing its third national championship. Arizona last won in 2000, finished second in 2002 and has not finished out of the top 10 since 1995.
The Wildcats finished seventh last year, 20 shots behind champion Southern California.
