A student was beaten and robbed Tuesday while he was walking near the Olive Street tunnel, 1003 N. Olive St., reports stated.

The student was pushed from behind while walking southbound underneath the tunnel at 10:24 p.m. While he was on the ground, he was kicked twice, reports stated.

His assailant took his wallet from his front pocket and ran away. The student was unable to get a good look at the person who robbed him.

The student had scrapes on his forehead, cheek, nose and chin. His pants were also torn and his knee was scraped, reports stated.


Police released a man carrying bolt cutters Wednesday after a witness said he was not the man he saw stealing a bike earlier in the night, reports stated.

A student called police after he saw a man using bolt cutters to break a lock at the Chemistry building, 1306 E. University Blvd., reports stated.

Police searched the area and found a man carrying bolt cutters and the same sports bag that the witness described. He said he was walking in the area when another man ran by and dropped the bag and bolt cutters.

The student was not able to identify the man as the person he saw at the Chemistry building. Police then released the man, reports stated.

After checking the man's name in the police database, police found he had an open warrant for disorderly conduct through the Tempe Police Department.

The UAPD dispatcher also said the same man had been questioned before regarding bike thefts on campus, reports stated.


Police arrested three students Wednesday after a resident assistant reported that he smelled burnt marijuana coming from their dorm room, reports stated.

Police knocked on the student's door at Arizona-Sonora Residence Hall, 910 E. Fifth St., after smelling burnt marijuana coming from inside. The students allowed the officer to search the room.

The students all denied smoking marijuana in the room, but admitted to smoking in a car earlier that night. The officer found a bag of marijuana under a pillow and a multi-colored glass pipe, reports stated.

The officer also found two unopened cans of beer, an open bottle of rum and an open bottle of tequila in the refrigerator.

All three students were arrested on marijuana possession charges. Two of the students were arrested on minor in possession charges, reports stated.


A $700 Gucci purse was stolen from a car Wednesday night after the driver left the window open slightly, reports stated.

The student parked her car near the East First Street and North Martin Avenue intersection at 12:30 p.m., leaving the driver-side window open 1 inch. When she returned 15 minutes later, the window was completely down and the bag was missing from the front seat.

The student's credit cards and mobile telephone were inside her purse.

Police did not find any fingerprints and have no suspects or witnesses.


An employee called police Thursday after her truck was stolen while parked at 1325 N. Warren Ave., reports stated.

The employee parked her Ford F250 pickup at 9:30 a.m. When she returned at 6 p.m., it was missing. The truck was also stolen in September and was later found 15 miles from the area.

There was no evidence of forced entry.

Police have no suspects or witnesses.


A toolbox was stolen from a man's truck Thursday while it was parked in a lot on 1231 N. Cherry Ave., reports stated.

The man parked the white Toyota pickup at 2 p.m. and returned at 6 p.m. The driver-side window was smashed and the toolbox was taken from the front seat.

The assortment of tools inside was worth an estimated $200.

Police have no suspects or witnesses.


A license plate was stolen from a student's car Wednesday while it was parked at the Main Gate Garage, 815 E. Second St., reports stated.

The student parked her black Honda Civic in the garage at 10 a.m. When she returned at 11:30 p.m., she saw that the license plate was gone.

Police have no suspects or witnesses.
