Applications are due tomorrow for the $500 merit-based scholarships that ASUA and the Parents' Association are offering to 12 undergraduate students.
Students must have at least sophomore status and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. In addition, they must not have been a paid 2003 - 2004 ASUA official.
Applicants must submit an unofficial transcript, a resumŽ and complete an application consisting of three questions regarding their stay at the UA.
The scholarships are paid for through fund raising that the Parents' Association does through the school year.
The scholarships have been around for at least 10 years, but Jim Drnek, ASUA adviser, said that with the recent tuition increases any extra money is especially helpful this year.
"Any system of support for students is welcomed; it's great to have a foundation that is giving back to the students," Drnek said.
Cale Miller, ASUA treasurer, said the scholarships are a great resource for students who have been working hard.
"It's nice for parents of students to support other deserving students," he said.
Students can still pick up an application at the ASUA offices, located above the UofA BookStore in the Student Union Memorial Center.
Applications are due tomorrow by 5 p.m. in the ASUA offices.
Applicants will be e-mailed within two weeks of the beginning of the spring semester regarding the status of their applications.
